Smoothies are often overlooked and considered to be a side show in the breakfast stakes; something fruity and sweet but rarely the main brekkie event. This ruby coloured beauty is a great speedy morning addition to your routine and with a powerful food processor (we love our Vitamix) you can have a balanced breakfast ready in no time.
Avocado not only adds essential fats to keep you going until lunch but adds a smooth, creamy texture which feels like a luxury. The almond milk will also pack in a little extra protein. The tarragon may sound like a rather unusual addition but I love the extra tang it adds; if you aren’t sure (or you don’t have any) then feel free to leave it out!
If you don’t have frozen strawberries then fresh ones will do just as well but you may want to add some ice cubes. Large bags of frozen fruit (Valley Foods and Iceland have a great selection) are the ideal way to help you start the day in a healthy way and make smoothies much easier.
Ingredients – serves 1
- 1 banana
- 175g frozen strawberries
- 1 tsp fresh tarragon
- 200ml almond milk, unsweetened
- 1/2 avocado
- This is any easy one, add it all to the blender and blend until smooth!
If your blender isn’t high powered then frozen strawberries may be too much for it; use fresh berries with a few ice cubes instead.
